This past week Cisco unveiled the details for the $10 million Cybersecurity Scholarship Program that was announced at the World Economic Forum (WEF) earlier this year. The program is designed to address the growing shortage of skilled cybersecurity professionals by offering:
- A new CCNA Cyber Ops certification to validate skills for entry-level SOC security analyst jobs
- Two online instructor-led courses with assessments and mentoring to prepare qualified candidates for CCNA Cyber Ops certification.
- The Global Cybersecurity Scholarship to fund training and certification for 10,000 qualified candidates located around the world
Qualifications
To be considered for the Cybersecurity Scholarship, applicants must be at least 18 years old, have general English proficiency, and basic competency in one or more of the following:
- Cisco Networking Academy letters of completion from both CCNA R&S ITN and CCNA R&S RSE
- Cisco CCENT certification or higher
- Linux expertise: CompTIA (Linux+), Linux Professional Institute (LPI) certification, Linux Foundation (LCFS, LCFE), Red Hat (RHCSA, RHCE, RHCA), Oracle Linux (OCA, OCP)
- Relevant industry certification [(ISC)2, CompTIA Security+, EC-Council, GIAC, ISACA]
- At least three years of combined experience in approved U.S. military job roles
- Windows expertise: Microsoft (Microsoft Specialist, MCSA, MCSE), CompTIA (A+, Network+, Server+).
Cisco Networking Academy students are ideal candidates for the Cybersecurity Scholarship, specifically
- CCNA R&S ITE and CCNA R&S RSE students with a letters of completion
- NDG Linux I & II students having achieved CompTIA Linux or LDP Certification
Because this is a two year scholarship program, students considering CCNA R&S or Linux courses can enroll now and potentially meet the qualifications within the two year period.
